The ONLY issue was I had to completely change the water EVERY day. I left the water (refreshed but keeping the same water) out over the weekend and the vase started to smell a bit and got slimy. When the vase arrived it was initially unfinished on the inside and had an amazing wood smell. That. After bleaching the inside to kill the accumulated mucus, the pleasant smell returned after a few days!
