Good building toy for younger children

I bought a 3 year old building toy and she loves it. They seem very sturdy and well made. However, their odd shapes and rounded corners don't help when trying to build very tall structures, but that's rarely a problem. My kid really enjoyed balancing only 2-3 bricks in a stack and it was quite difficult for her. There is a wide range of shapes that required at least an hour of architectural research. A cute toy for a curious and stubborn child!
