This review is primarily an installation guide for Jeep TJ owners. TL version; DR. If you have a Jeep TJ, buy this one. You will not regret it. Getting in and out of the jeep is much easier even with a small elevator. ------------- OVERVIEW ------ What about "Overview"? And why five stars? "Welding is great. There are more than enough materials (thick flat plate, strong steel bar, decent rubber grips). The design is slightly different than most handrail products I've tested on Revain before deciding on this one and is superior in my opinion. The [rather thick] bottom plate is cut by a hydraulic press, with a hardening channel and a 1/2 round part to weld on a solid steel rod. The fit for the Jeep TJ was almost perfect ("almost" only because if the pr-in cut from the outermost ear was about 1/4" vertical, the installation would be MUCH more obvious and no further instructions would be needed). I give five stars for design, materials and workmanship, "good value for money" and "highly recommended" (for Jeep TJ fans).-------------- INSTRUCTIONS--- --- There were no instructions. And I assume it will fit other cars too? But for a TJ with a semi-rigid hard top, these instructions can save you time and trouble. Because before attempting to bolt on the handrail, you must FIRST cut small groove in front upper door skin to fit outside of panel. As always: YMMV. To get started you will need a Phillips and a flat head screwdriver. , cutter, 3/8 ratchet with extension and T40- Screwdriver and a small flashlight (well, I needed them to do the centering check the flat pinholes on the Jeep frame). Remove the three small Phillips screws located in the front upper door panel and set aside2. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry off the bottom end of the fairing being careful not to pull it out so far that it breaks - that would be bad - and DO NOT ATTEMPT to pry off the end of the roof (this is not necessary as this is not required). They only give the cutter enough room to make a simple cut)3. While gently pulling on the bottom of the bezel, insert your pliers into the TOP of the existing notch and cut a piece that matches the outer curve of the mounting plate (check the image for the size needed). The cutter will still cut the right length of plastic, the cut will be ugly, but it's really out of sight - out of mind, so don't worry about cosmetics in that case) NOTE: there isn't one for the next three Reference Image Steps4. Remove the INSIDE - and ONLY the INSIDE - Torx screw from the windshield frame5. Lubricate one of the longer bolts from the hardware kit and "hang" the center hole of the mounting plate from the vehicle side onto the fixture (note: the handrails are not marked, but there is a driver's side and a passenger's side). the long side of the plate faces the center of the vehicle), screwing in, leaving "enough" friction to be able to turn the handrail with little effort6. Unscrew the OUTER Torx T40 fastener from the window frame and rotate the handrail plate up so the outer hole aligns with the windshield hole, lubricate the other of the longer fasteners from the fastener kit, screw in and tighten Celebration. Center Side Torx Fastener (NOTE: Believe me, I just saved you at least 30-45 minutes of swearing and scratching your head and possibly ripping out the windshield screw holes.) Using a blade screwdriver, GENTLELY pry the underside of the window trim over the flexible Rubber piece of the door it sits on (this will help keep the blade towards the center flat edge of the panel) until it is properly attached. windshield support and CAREFULLY thread the three Phillips screws back into the B.8 pillar. Repeat for the passenger side handrail9. Do a final torque check on the T40 mounts, clean up your project and you're done. YOUR total time should be much less than an hour (probably 1/2 hour). On the first rod I was on the road much longer. connected lol. ------------ PIX ------ I have no idea what order Revain will actually post the (9) PIX I uploaded for this "review" in, but I'll add the tools added image, image of the original notch in the duct panel, image of the panel half removed from the B-pillar, image of the cutters cutting the panel, image of the panel notched, image of the [driver's] mounting plate installed, image that shows the trim being reinstalled, passenger side trim fully installed, and the final view showing both slats installed and the mess in the front seats of my Jeep before I cleaned it all up, and "Miller Time" lol.
