This works for me about twenty percent of the time - I find the hum distracting at times rather than soothing. Living in the city, I am accustomed to outside noise, but the inside noise in condominiums feels much louder and more distracting. If you are a light sleeper this may work for you. It helps that you can somewhat adjust the sound of the white noise machine.
