They hold your tie in place firmly enough most of the time, but can be easily removed to avoid damage to the fabric of your clothing should your tie snag. They go well with most ties I have, but some of them are too big for these clips making it difficult to center everything without crumpling the tie. Suitable for skinny ties but can look a little unprofessional as the clip may slightly overlap the edge of your tie.
