Okay for now, but. in Houses & Habitats

I would like to give 2.5 stars but have decided to round down rather than round up. I ordered this cage for 2 young male rats that are growing fast. I've had the cage for a few months now and I feel I can give a fair review. Pros: The size is a large cage that can easily accommodate two male rats. I like that it has an open space below and multiple hard floor levels. Deep Base - The base is very deep and I've had little to no issues with litter scattering outside of the cage. The spacing between the wires is one of the key features of this cage, how closely the wire bars are spaced. I didn't want to risk my (then) very small rats escaping. Price - Not bad for the size of the cage. Cons: Cheaply made - this is one of the biggest cons. While not a very expensive cage, I expected it to be more durable. The plastic feels very brittle and cheap and I was afraid it would break during assembly. It has two wire ties on each side to attach the top to the base and only one of my wire ties so it's not exactly secure. Door access - while I like the two caged doors, I wish they had one on top for easier cleaning. Difficult assembly. Difficulty cleaning. This is probably the second biggest downside and is directly related to how cheaply the cage is made. So far I have only spot cleaned the various levels and ramps because they are so difficult to reattach. I'm worried about breaking them because the plastic parts are so flimsy. Since there is no access to the upper door, it is also difficult to get in there to give the platforms and ramps a good wipe. has a stronger construction and is easier to clean.
