HP Docking Station 2013 D9Y32AA - unrefurbished and fragile

Advantages: - Cheaper than new. - Works with HP Elitebook G3 - AC adapters work. a keyless security lock that prevented the dock from being used until I disassembled the dock to remove the lock (60+ custom screws and hours of labor to disassemble and reassemble the dock). Docking station broke immediately. The investigation revealed that it was an attempted repair that did not work. While the price of these refurbished docks is lower than a new one from HP (when you can actually get a new one), they really aren't a bargain or a money saver. The fact that one of them was "locked" and could not be used until the lock was removed after several hours of operation made it unprofitable. In order to remove this lateral latch, the entire docking station must be dismantled. I disassembled the device because I couldn't find a source for spare keys and there was no way for my locksmith to make a key without identifying the key information. Disassembly requires a set of special screwdrivers (which I had), but the small size of the screws and the number of cuts and level of disassembly required to get to the lock bracket required hours of work. My time is valuable and far outweighs the difference in the cost of buying a new docking station. The second of the two units I bought didn't have a lock, but the alignment pins (used to align the laptop with the dock so the connector is seated properly) came loose immediately. Upon inspection, I found that the pins (in a round plastic case) were glued to the docking station's body with not very strong glue, which immediately detached. I was able to glue one back on with epoxy but the other was missing a piece which didn't work. Again, it took a bit of work to fix this and ended in failure. The 65W power adapters provided with the docking stations work adequately to power the docking station and peripheral monitors. I would have preferred 90w power supplies but they work. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this provider. The actual docking stations were not tested for functionality prior to shipping and were not working upon arrival. Find another provider.
