I started by buying XL based on the recommendations here. I am a 5'8 and 185lbs lean. XL was like wearing sweatpants and I don't miss leg days. So I ordered M and they fit but they didn't have the compression I am accustomed to from Adidas tights. I was going to try S but they weren't available at the time I placed my orders. Some first impressions from putting them on were that the material felt thin and I don't think they would keep you as warm as name brand tights often do and it also felt like the fabric might not last long. They were reasonably comfortable though! These observations combined with the compression issues mean that this product likely isn't the best workout solution if you're able to seek out a more expensive alternative. However, I think these would work fine for regular use if you're just looking for a particular aesthetic or lounging around the house.
