They are affecting IPv6 support

This review is for the NETGEAR R7900-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3000 Smart Wi-Fi Router. reviews together. Basically it works. but has a big fatal flaw that I only noticed after my Amazon return period had expired. The firmware blocks/firewalls all connections from the WAN trying to connect to ports listening on the IPv6 interface. So you can't connect to services running on your network from outside your LAN over IPv6. There is NO setting to enable this. I googled and searched for Netgear support forms. In threads created by other people, Netgear support staff say this behavior is "on purpose" for security reasons. What a disappointment and a big disappointment for me. To make matters worse, you can't set up your own firewall rules through the telnet interface, since the "telnetenable" script doesn't work on this router (it doesn't open port 23 on the LAN, so the script doesn't work. ) Also posed During my research, it turned out that OpenWRT and Tomato are not supported on this model. I expect more from a $200 router. To make matters worse, Amazon is even selling it a few months later for forty dollars less than I paid for it. Aside from the issues listed above, the router seems to be working fine. So I guess it's ok if you're just happy with an IPv4 router that you don't want to run custom firmware on.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues
