We are in the process of closing up a room in the basement and there was a water plug sticking out about 2 inches. I replaced it with this nifty recessed one. When I measured the diameter of the existing cap I first thought it was over 4 inches (about 4.5 inches) but you have to keep in mind that these caps protrude slightly over the rim of the pipe as they are not recessed. It fits perfectly.
