Use 3M body tape or any auto body tape. It will be better than the awful tape that comes with it. It stayed on for about 2 weeks before the foam just peeled off the adhesive backing due to contact. Installation was very easy. Cut and glue - done. The scratch guard was a bit thicker than I expected. They are approximately 1/2 inch (13mm) thick. Not to say it's bad, but overcoming bumps and climbs that don't scratch you by adding this, you increase your chances of contact.
