They are great for luggage tracking in crowded areas and color-coding luggage among family members. I had an idea that they would be comfortable, but I didn't know HOW comfortable they would be until I took them on a multi-stop, multi-week trip across Europe with a family of five. You were awesome. You know all those times when you have to quickly pack your luggage? I'm talking about the times when you're picking up your suitcase from the airport parking lot, from the bus luggage store, from the baggage claim area, or from the storage area of a crowded ferry that's about to depart. 2 minute stop at the pier or from the train car's overloaded luggage racks. when you're exhausted and surrounded by other worried, bleary-eyed people jostling to snag matching black or blue suitcases. At such moments, a glowing handle on YOUR suitcase will come to the rescue. You hardly have to think. Just grab the handle and stand out from the crowd! And when you arrive at your destination with other family members, you don't have to look for that scratch, dent or sticker that sets them apart without bending down and squinting at the name tag. Jet-lagged eyes without opening each suitcase a little to look inside to see who's who. Instead, each has its own color and the suitcases are shipped to their owners immediately. It might seem like a small thing, but when you multiply those amenities by a factor of ten, you have to move all your bags and sort them to the right. Folks, throughout the journey, comfort is really *very* important. As an added benefit, I find the handles comfortable. And on my suitcase (Samson Silhouette Sphere 2 21 inch spinner) the extra layer doesn't make the handle of the suitcase so thick that I can't get my arm through. Without the colored handle, the gap between my suitcase handle and the suitcase itself is about 0.75 inches, even when at rest. When I put the grip on, the gap narrows to 0.5 inches, but it's still just enough for me to slip my fingers through comfortably. . Also, the colored handle itself is soft and pliable, and the case handle itself flexes a bit, so when I pull on the handle, the gap increases to .75 inches. never mind The number of Velcro straps also matters: it is 1 inch. wide and runs the full length of the handle. As a result, it turns out that when fastened with Velcro, it is quite reliable. It actually takes a lot of effort to take it off as you are actually tearing off a 5" x 1" piece of velcro on the long side. It will not fall off or wear out with normal handling. The luggage tags that come with the handles are good, but not perfect. The plastic card holder and loop have held up well to multiple trips, no complaints. However, I didn't like the paper card layout with tags, so I made my own out of index cards. And what worries me even more is that the paper map is up in the air. There is no transparent plastic window over the printed part of the card, which means that if you hand write on your luggage tags (like I do) and rain falls on them, the ink will run. To counteract this, I made my own plastic lids by cutting rectangles out of ziplock freezer bags and gluing them into a plastic holder over a handwritten card. It has proven itself on several trips. (Any other thin, clear plastic with some stiffness will work - clear sheeting, clear divider, etc. I've made a few covers out of regular zippered bags, but they were too flimsy and pliable so they tended to pop out of the plastic frame, especially when they worn out in transit so I replaced them with heavy duty freezers).
