These LEGO compatible base plates were just what I needed. As a longtime LEGO collector and builder, I have many printed and glued tiles that I keep on baseplates for easy viewing. I used to use some old LEGO baseplates for this, but I needed smaller ones that would fit in a small storage box. LEGO no longer sells baseplates with 16x16 (5"x5") studs, so I had to find something else. I don't usually buy bricks from other brands, but for storage these Brick Loot baseplates were perfect! They are packaged together in plastic and each base plate in the larger package is individually packaged in its own plastic case. They come in packs of 10 in 4 colors (3 green, 3 light grey, 2 blue and 2 tan) although I somehow got an extra tan (probably by mistake on their part). The colors match the LEGO colors very well. . Blue and brown seem to be the closest, while green and gray are only slightly darker than LEGO. You can see in the photo where I compare the baseplates to the LEGO 2x2 tile of the same color. The color difference is very slight, no more than a random LEGO color variation. You really have to look closely to see the difference. Since these are ground planes and not regular boards, the underside is flat so you can't connect anything to that side. The rivets at the top match the LEGO pieces very well. They seem to grab the pieces a little harder than LEGO studs, but not too much. The parts can still be easily removed without undue force and without damaging the parts. The difference is very subtle and most people probably won't notice the difference. The stronger grip appears to be partly due to the spikes having squarer edges compared to slightly rounded LEGO spikes. The thickness of the baseplates is slightly thinner than the LEGO baseplates, but not that much. If you place them next to the LEGO baseplate and block the gap with a piece, they will work fine. The difference in thickness can be the thickness of a sheet of paper, if that. This is very low. They also feel a bit stiffer than the LEGO baseplates, but still flex a bit. At the moment they seem pretty solid and should last a long time. Overall this is a great product and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to LEGO baseplates. As a LEGO brand advocate (I only use LEGO branded parts in my builds) I probably won't use them on a build unless I plan on covering all the studs, but for my tile storage solution they are perfect. For anyone not keen on branding these are great for any real world project or game you might have.
