The instructions for this product are quite simple; Plug it in, wait for the green light and beep, then press the button on the remote control. When I plugged this unit into the OBD port of my 2008 Hyundai Elantra, I got a continuous hum and flashing red light and nothing happened when I pressed the button on the remote. Knowing that this device would only work "up to three times," I was really hesitant to just keep plugging and unplugging it. I googled a bit to see if there were any troubleshooting steps I could do and found that someone said you have to be in the car with the doors closed for it to work (actually it's not true ), so I partially plugged the device in and planned on pushing it all the way once I was inside and the door was closed behind me. As I lined up the device and pushed it about halfway with the door open, I heard a beep and saw a green light. I followed the instructions for the two new remotes I have and the programming worked, although the locks on my car didn't work and I couldn't tell if the lights were flashing because I was under the dash at the time. I then checked the original remote I had and it stopped working. So I plugged the device back in about halfway, heard a beep and a green light, and programmed all three remotes one at a time before unplugging the device. All three remotes now work great!
