I added a layer of this to a cored penguin filter frame with four layers of cotton in front. It has cleaned my water since I put it in 12 hours ago. It feels like there is a thin layer of rubber on one side of the filter pad. I assume this is to prevent any fibers from fraying or slowing down the filter cloth. In any case, this filter cloth is VERY high quality. The seller emailed me the day before receiving the product to remind me to rinse the filter cloth several times before placing it in the aquarium. Very good customer care. Thanks! I will buy again when I run out.
