After being unable to find any merino wool hiking socks with a non-compression band for diabetics (a SERIOUS gap in the market for sock makers!), I decided to just buy the three most recommended brands (Darn Tough , Smartwool, Farm2feet) and try them all to see if any of them work for me as a diabetic. I have to say that Darn Tough seems to be the thickest and heaviest of the three. No wonder they have such a reputation for durability. If I wasn't diabetic I would definitely buy more of these. Unfortunately, they are quite tight in the mouth and leave a dent in the foot after wearing them for a day. While the Smartwool brand is thinner and not as durable, it has a softer feel and is more suitable for diabetics. Still not perfect, but still better, so I'll use them for my hikes. Note to manufacturers: 35 million people (1 in 10) in the United States have diabetes and 88 million have prediabetes. Diabetics also like to go camping. Please consider creating an optional version of your products to meet their needs.
