I bought this bed to keep my guinea pig warm in winter. He absolutely LOVES it. My guinea pig weighs 1lb 8oz. I read the product description and bought an XL crocodile leather bed. The large bed has been described as suitable for a 1 lb 8 oz guinea pig. Size XL is for an adult guinea pig over 1lb 8oz. The XL gives him room to grow. It was vacuum packed, all the air was sucked out of it. It regained its shape after I took it out of the plastic. The outer bed looks like a crocodile. The bed has a white zipped pillow in a pink pillowcase. My guinea pig sits on the pillow (in bed) or snuggles under the pillow to sleep. Although the outside of the bed says to be hand washed, I ran it through the washing machine once and then hung it out to dry. None of the pieces fell off and it kept its shape. I opened the pink pillowcase and removed the white pillowcase. I didn't wash the white pillow. It looked like it would fall apart when I washed it. Then I washed the pink pillowcase in the car and hung it to dry. He is holding up well and my guinea pig was very happy to have his new clean bed back in his cage. Unfortunately, my guinea pig poops in this bed. I throw away the feces and then wash them as above. Not sure if the outer bed will stand up to constant machine washing. I can switch to hand washing if it gets too worn.
