Sooner or later all battery pins and terminals will corrode if you don't use these anti-corrosion washers or some other protection. I like the protective screens because after installation they continue to protect against corrosion without additional treatment. Most cars now have very thin metal connectors instead of the old heavy duty lead connectors that used to come from the factory and it doesn't take much corrosion to completely eat through these new thin metal connectors. These new type terminals are usually more expensive to replace than the old type terminals.
