Review on Whynter FMC 350XP Compact Portable Refrigerator by Michael Briggs

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great fridge or not? - Depends on how you want to use it!

In many ways this is a great product. It's compact, holds the set temperature well, switches between AC and DC automatically (we use it in a camper van so this feature is very valuable) and has - in our case - worked continuously for several months. . There is a serious problem with the gasket that seals the top cover/door/cover. It is only about 5/16 inch (8mm) wide and is in a trough. It's really too narrow and short to get the job done. And being in the trough doesn't help. So if you use the Whynter more like a freezer than a fridge (which we did) condensation will form around and next to the gasket and eventually freeze the lid on the main body of the unit. This causes the seal to deteriorate and crumble, eventually rendering it unusable. I contacted Winter and they ended up sending me a replacement cap, but the process was like pulling teeth. It wasn't fast or graceful at all. I offered to discuss the cause of the sealing problem with them, but they never contacted me about the problem and its cause. Conclusion: If you only use this product for short trips, you should be fine. However, be careful if you plan to use it for a long period of time.
