My 16 year old KD6000 eventually died from a power surge. 15 years ago I lost the original power supply and replaced it with another one. The plug never fitted properly, but still worked with backup batteries (they're not kidding when they say they're tough). Well, it was fried by a power surge during the storm. I got another MyWeight because I trust accuracy. No disappointment here, it's almost the same quality, it works just as well. I look forward to it becoming my "main" scale for another 15-20 years. I've bought a few less expensive backup scales for other rooms that work great too, but it's a tried and tested option. Love this scale! Important note: A few years ago I read that the balance works on a magnetic rod inside. It is FORBIDDEN to put objects on the scales whose weight exceeds the limit set by the scales! My old one was 13 pounds, this one hasn't been tested yet. If you accidentally put a heavy box on it, you could ruin the weight mechanism inside. My old KD6000 lasted so long because it sat on my shelf so no one could accidentally put anything heavy on it. Be careful if you leave it on the table.
