Great sound solution!

I bought these as a cheaper alternative to a pair of Dayton crossovers I bought from Parts Express. make a pair of speakers from an EPI 100 kit (Harmon International Management's Model 3, which is widely considered the worst of the EPI 100 series. I've never heard of the earlier models, but the Model 3s really weren't very good. Just big black ones boxes.) I bought in 1990. The bass surround rotted and I don't even remember what happened to the tweeters (probably cone type as in model 3 EPI 70, same year) or the crossover, again most likely the same as 70 -x, those are just 2 capacitors (?), hot glued to the back of the plastic connector board. I bought a pair of 1" dome tweeters, a pair of 8" woofers and a pair of very large capacitors (same ratings as the original EPI 100 model) from PE. Put everything together and the speakers started working. The bass was pretty good, but the highs were very bright and barely audible. What I didn't understand was the difference in sensitivity between woofer and tweeter. I ordered $3,000 crossovers for $26 (each) from PE hoping it would help. They sounded better, but they still didn't listen, and certainly not at the price they're worth. When I saw these Uxcells I realized that for the price and the positive reviews they should work. And they did a lot better than Dayton. They couldn't solve the problem of the different sensitivity of the speakers, but somehow they sounded much smoother and clearer now, and those old speakers were now audible. I have since learned that L shaped spacers are needed to loosen the level of the tweeter to solve the problem. Then I read a great review (The Real Deal), bought another pair of these Uxcell crossovers and installed them in a pair of Polk T-15s as he mentioned and these crossovers completely changed the Polk from sounding good but with a lot specific crossover problems. down to a pair of really great speakers considering the price. Filter. I've since bought a few more of these filters for my other Polk T-15/s. I've also tried them on EPI 70s and Sony SS-MB100H with the same great results. I was going to mount a pair of Sony SS B1000 speakers on it but couldn't remove the woofers to get into the case (the screws are fake and nothing more than moldings in a frame, does anyone know how these woofers attach?) If You really want to upgrade an inexpensive pair of small speakers and have fun, buy them!
