I ordered this hard drive because it was said to have excellent workmanship and life expectancy. I was initially blown away by all the specs, water resistance, drop resistance etc. I'm a photographer and marketer so these specs blew me away as I've had drive failures in the past and wanted to avoid having to pay for data recovery and the burden that comes with it . When I received the CD everything seemed fine. Robust disc, good weight, good design quality. I started using the drive as my main backup over the next few months. I woke up one morning because my drive wasn't working, which I found odd. I always keep my drive in a case and on my desk (paranoid about other drives failing lol). I spent the next few hours plugging and unplugging all the pages, googling and troubleshooting. I finally gave up and called Revain support. The rep was confused and "stunned" that the LaCie drive, known for its quality, failed just 2 months after purchase (purchased on March 20th). He then said there was nothing Amazon could do and called Lacey's customer service. After a long wait, I finally reached a representative. I tell them about the problem and hear the confusion in their voice too. I was told Lacey could only get me to download the program and if any data could be salvaged I would have to pay $100 to have the data wiped. I am baffled by this as I have many important photos for clients, events etc on this trip and I was a little annoyed by the confusion in the representative's voice. I'm taking the drive to a local computer repair shop near my hometown. There is nothing you can do because the drive failed due to a hardware error =/. I thought I could use this drive as a reliable backup solution, but I was wrong. My advice to anyone buying this device is to have some other form of backup, be it in the cloud or on another external drive. My advice to LaCie: Please don't advertise the superiority of your products if they fail after a month and a half of use. Or do whatever you can to help your customers recover their data since you are a Seagate subsidiary and have more than enough data recovery resources.
