Excellent for making electromagnets. I made a linear motor by wrapping a wire around a small glass tube with some small round magnets stacked inside. It is powered by eight AAA (12V) batteries connected in series. Plugging in power causes the batteries to shoot from end to end. Exactly what I needed in my project to convert an old mechanical cuckoo clock to electricity. The cuckoo's mechanical mechanisms are failing due to dust and pet hair in my house. Replacement movements are ridiculously expensive and require constant winding and maintenance. With rechargeable Eneloop batteries, my watch lasts a full year without recharging. In addition, Eneloop batteries cannot leak like alkaline batteries and do not end up in landfills. At home I only use Eneloop batteries. Including clocks, remote controls, flashlights and various projects, I now use over 50 small suction cups around my house to save money and help the environment.
