For my application I chose the size closest to what I was replacing. The size photo helps a lot. They were 1 inch longer but shorter when compressed. It took a little effort to remove the length to fit the ball studs due to length but did exactly what was needed to keep my Cadet GT1554's hood up all the time. Away while closure is still a possibility.
