Poor vinyl grip, same quality as contact paper

I bought this product because a youtube reviewer shared how much better it grips and transfers vinyl than contact paper. Judging by their demonstration, it looked convincing. However, after use, I'm not sure if it's any better than contact paper. I used a plastic spatula and rubbed it really hard to lift the vinyl letters and was still having trouble getting it off the vinyl backing.
