Review on Samson Mic Portable Condenser Microphone by Kirk Womack

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Super SMALL. Feels pretty flimsy (the stand feels nice but the mic itself feels cheap)

I use this for non-professional VK over Skype, Bane, Discord etc. The mic quality seems decent to be. I used it on Skype in -10db mode. According to the person I spoke to, that sounded the best. Definitely need a pop screen if you plan to get close to it. Setting the level to 65-70 on Windows 10 was a bit noisy. I have read that another reviewer says that the plastic body of his mic has cracked from the pressure of the clamp/stand and I can see exactly how this is happening as the plastic mic body seems to crack in a short time due to the thin plastic. I wish they had used metal. Three different settings are really good. I think they will come in handy and it's always nice to have features like this in a cheaper mic. Everything is fine with the stand. It's metallic and appears to be well made. The connection where the mic connects to the stand becomes VERY loose after being moved for just a few days. My guess is that in a month or two the mic won't even hold its position (despite the mic being SUPER LIGHT). It is very important. It would be nice if this mic could be detached from the stand and had a built in screw mount. I usually use the AT2020, but I need a cheap USB alternative with decent sound quality that works with mobile devices. Devices. It seemed perfect for its size, good reviews and I used a Samson Meteor mic and thought it was great. I'm deducting two stars because it didn't come with the adapter screw and another star because the joint was loose after a day of use. I think the mic itself is perfect for portable, everyday use, but not for anything professional (it's $40, of course). I would honestly say the sound is on par with a $30 pair of Apple headphones (mic). Simply more versatile.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • flimsy
