I've tried everything from a handmade round tie stand that hangs from a pole in my closet to an expensive Das Sharper Image is a motorized tie stand and nothing has worked as well as this one. It is easy to install, holds many ties, and is convenient to use. Just to mention a few points from some of the other comments on this tie stand: 1) OPTIONAL PLASTIC TIE CLIPS (PTHC) - I haven't found any such "plastic tie clips" yet. What you will find are lots of regular PTHCs like the ones that usually come with your ties when you buy them from the store. While it's good to know that they work with this rod, they are nowhere near as good as the ones that come with the rod. The ones supplied with this rod have three distinct advantages - so obvious in my opinion that I will likely purchase a third rod to add to the PTHC capacity of the two rods I already have. I think it costs money to do it. 1) These PTCs don't have a sharp tooth - the tooth is smooth. As you can see when you look at a normal PTHC, the tooth or "lobe" on the top of two fingers is often a bit sharp. This is to ensure the tie stays on the PTHC while customers view it in store. But if you keep putting your tie on and off, it will start tearing at the back seam of the tie. The PTHCs that come with this rack have a smooth eyelet that allows you to easily slide the zip ties in and out without damaging them. And don't worry, your connections are still secure. 2) These PTHCs have offset fingers. Instead of looking like a straight line when viewed from the side (like the rest of the PTHCs on the market), the top fingers are slightly offset. This helps in two ways. This greatly simplifies the process of putting on and taking off the tie from the PTHC and effectively allows two ties to be hung on each PTHC. Warning: if the ties are thick, they won't be as easy to put on and take off as if they were thin, but I think it's worth it considering it doubles the capacity of your clips and the large number of clips . Ties rarely come out of the closet anyway. 3) The plastic of these PTHCs is about twice as thick as regular ones. Since they fit snugly in the frame, I think having a stronger plastic will be important if I hope to match the durability of this device. It also means that if you're trying to fit two thick zip ties to a PTHC, there's no problem tightening them up a bit. And don't worry about the thickness, which means less of it will fit on the handlebars. A barbell tolerates more PTHC than ties. The ties are the thickest part of this operation, even if you only hang one on each PTHC. 2) LONG ROD REPLACEMENT - Another reviewer mentioned getting a longer pole from the hardware store. I found it almost impossible and after a day of searching I almost gave up. Most hardware stores sell hollow tubing of the same brand and size, and this size isn't one of them. I have visited two independent and two hardware store chains and have not found any suitable poles. Even if I were willing to pay over $20 for a solid aluminum bar, the standard size closest to this one is too big to fit in brackets. I think you could heat the plastic ends and try to push them in, but I didn't want to do that. This material is called "hollow rod" if you want to try and find it, but it appears to be a little more than a standard size smaller and a little smaller than the next size up. It is possible to take a standard sized dowel and use it to connect two of these rods, but this will give you very little extra length. These rods are about 11" long and I was looking for a 27" overall length. I could span 5" with a dowel (which is pretty tight on the hollow tubes but can still sag a bit when trying to bridge a gap that size with the weight of all those zip ties), but because its diameter is smaller than that outside of the hollow tubular brackets would not slide smoothly past this chatter. I'll check with a local shop that specializes in metal tubing to see what they have, but it's probably expensive. So I just installed two of them side by side. I'm endlessly tormented by the idea of there being 5 inches of empty hanger space between them, but for the price of this I think it would make more sense to just buy a third one than spend extra time finding a longer one and too buy cash. 3) HANG UP MORE THAN 30 TIES. As others have said you can easily hang over 30 ties. I haven't tried it with a single PTHC tape, but I'm willing to bet you can fit 50 or 60 tapes in a rack. The only downside is that depending on the mounting location, you may not have much extra extra rack space needed if you overload it. By this I mean room for the zip ties to push out the end of the post. I doubled my PTHCs with 2 zip ties each and was able to fit 25 PTHCs with 50 zip ties. The bottom of the suspension straps is wider than the width of the rack. So if you're in a tight space, you can't do this. Also, it can be difficult to pack them this way to see all your ties, but I know my ties well and hang them by color so I don't mind if they're tightly packed. And there is enough room behind my door for the bottom of the connecting rods to be wider than the top of the shelf. Hope that helps. I'll try to post a few pics so you can see what I mean by PTHC and what it looks like when you pack 30+ zip ties per rack.
