Prevents eggs from bursting when laid.
We use a lot of straw in our nests. Chickens tend to make the bowl so deep that there is not enough straw at the bottom of the nest and some of the eggs will crack if dropped during laying. Since we added these pads there have been no more issues. The pads are hard and the chickens don't gnaw through them like straw. I highly recommend it.
