Review on πŸ’Ύ Kingston Data Traveler Locker + G3 16GB USB 3.0 with Personal Security and Cloud Backup (DTLPG3/16GB) by Elizabeth Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as expected - almost

I bought this because I needed a secure USB drive to store my sensitive files. There are a few nuances to consider, and I'm not sure they'll work for all users and all systems. On my laptop, when the flash drive is plugged in and the app doesn't launch, the drive first shows up as a DVD-RW drive. I like it but it fooled me at first as I didn't think the drive was mounted. When you open the DVD volume, you will see an application called DTLplus_Launcher. Again, this doesn't start automatically on my laptop. Double click and you can set up security on your drive, and from now on it is also required to run this application to enter the password to unlock the encrypted drive. Once you enter the password, the full 32GB flash drive will appear as the new drive letter. I've also heard that on some computers an encrypted drive won't mount unless you have two consecutive drive letters, but I haven't had this problem. I've found that the drive locks automatically whenever your system goes to sleep or hibernation, or if the drive is removed while it was in an unlocked state - all of which I like. I gave this device 4 stars instead of 5 because it doesn't have a printed manual - I had to go online to find out how to use it properly. Note. If you understand that the device appears as a DVD drive, this unencrypted section of the device saves the user manual in PDF format.
