Review on Beaba 912066 BEABA Babycook Sorbet by Amanda Smith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

There was a serious problem - now it's solved and Babycook works perfectly.

This is the first product review that I have had to write about Revain. Bought because most prepared baby food is gross and I wanted an easy way to serve fresh food to our son. This product is highly rated and I like gadgets so I found it apt. It worked well in terms of being handy and making baby food, but after about 3 weeks I noticed that the water used for steaming was brown and smelled sweet. I looked inside the tank and noticed brown dirt all over the metal and a sickeningly sweet smell. I assumed (wrongly) that my mother-in-law had accidentally put food down the opening of the tank and was then embarrassed to say anything, so I cleaned the unit with vinegar per the instructions and tried again. We've only had the device since February 2010, we only use it 2-3 times a week and now the same problem occurs 3-4 times. The water used for cooking is brown and disgusting and I have cleaned (physically cleaned) the brown dirt in the tank several times. I contacted Beaba and they suggested that the problem is related to descaling and descaling the device once a month. I totally disagree as we have had the same coffee maker for three years and have never descaled it. I don't know if the food is rotating in the tank or what, but right now we have a $150 baby food machine that we don't want to use. What good is fresh baby food if it's covered in unknown rubbish? Beaba still hasn't responded to a replacement/repair question. Will be updated with new developments. Update 2/25/11 is an update of the above review. I'm not sure, but I now think the brown water issue is due to the abuse of a plastic lid when mixing food (user error) which allowed food particles to get into the water chamber and then back into the nursery. Groceries. I say this because while no one in my family would admit to not using a plastic rack when mixing, when I repeated that everyone should use one, the problem went away and we've been using the baby food maker without incident ever since. So I'm not sure what caused the problem, but it seems to have gone away recently and we're happy with the product again now. I have changed my rating to 4 stars.
