Review on Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - High Resolution 16.2MP by Bhavin Patel ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money, I recommend.

I will make a reservation in advance that I have many years of experience shooting with SLR cameras, from film to digital FF. So this camera immediately went into the category of "friend of Photoshop" due to the strange color rendering of the "skinton" (skin color). Of course, all this is corrected by "presets" configured and created in Capture NX2, but why such a hassle :(. This is an amateur segment camera and everything should be simple and immediately here. You can shoot objects but faces . Faces come out pale, powdered. Post-processing is required otherwise you won't get a healthy complexion. It's just as bad that there is no live histogram. In terms of purely technical camera is good. Convenient swivel display. Rich functionality. There are in-camera HDR and D-Lightning. There is exposure bracketing (but it's bad that it's disposable). Good quality video in FullHD format. The camera is compact and easy to carry around. In general, given the technical characteristics of the camera, it has a great potential. You can create. But you have to be friends with graphic editors to achieve the right color. Despite the disadvantages that I found in this camera, it is still the best in its "weight category" so far.

Pros
  • The advantages include a large matrix with high sensitivity. Compactness. Build quality . Greater functionality. All sorts of chips in the form of preset effects. Full HD video shooting. Rotary display .
Cons
  • Color rendition . With the settings sewn into the device, deathly pale faces are obtained, as if powdered. On a calibrated monitor, the difference in color reproduction compared to competitors' cameras is significant. In-camera JPEG at 3+ no more. Poor viewfinder, it does not have frames (sight) as in old models, from here a littered horizon, etc. High price (for an amateur camera segment).
