My son has the required iPad for 8th grade but it will be completely removed for 8 weeks starting next week. We bought this adapter so he wouldn't keep staring at his small iPad screen. Unfortunately (and this doesn't necessarily have to do with the product) the iPad doesn't have the functionality that we were hoping for. All the iPad can do is mirror what's on the iPad screen - it can't extend or act as a second monitor when the iPad screen is in use. Apple is aware of this, but is happy to sell this adapter at an inflated price of $45. We set up my son's workstation just so he would tell us he was just staring at the screen of his iPad and not the large monitor we connected it to. Ultimately, this is an iPad/iOS functionality issue. It doesn't have to be a device. But you know what you get when you buy it - an overpriced adapter that doesn't do what many people would buy it for.
