I was very pleased to review this unit. Great hardware specs, very competitive prices, and lifetime software updates are all things to admire. I also find it beneficial to have more than one high quality scanner when working with many vehicles. I was able to diagnose problems with cheaper devices that the multi-thousand-dollar snap-on couldn't detect. Out of the box, this is a nice, well-protected tablet that works well for storage. As another reviewer pointed out, the Bluetooth dongle is huge. Not sure why that is, certainly not a deal breaker. The only problem it causes is that it appears to be an item that wasn't included in previous years. So the case is snug enough to fit everything back in, it powers on quickly, connects to Wi-Fi easily, and updates the software without fuss. The main navigation icons are large and mostly intuitive. I've tried this with two cars, which admittedly can be a problem with many scan tools. The first was a 2004 Touareg V8. The Touareg has Can and Hex tires and represents the pinnacle of exaggerated German engineering. Ansel fought here. The vehicle could not be identified automatically. I manually selected the information and ran a full scan. He kept looking for all sorts of things that were never offered in that car, such as sliding doors. It took a long time and finally I canceled the process. Things went better with another, still complicated, 2014 Porsche Panamera. This time it fixed the VIN quickly, faster than any scanner I've ever used. Likewise, it completed a full diagnosis in about 90 seconds, which is also very good. It returned several DTEs consistent with what I had seen in other tools. + in this regard. But wait. Many European vehicles now require an electronic update when installing a new battery. They tend to use silly codes designed to trick owners into spending $1,000 to replace a 12-volt battery (yes, that's about what a Porsche dealership will charge you ). This feature works on devices like the ThinkTool scanner, so I decided to see how easy or difficult it would be on Ancel. I show the attached video. You go to the battery service menu and select your car. Good news, it lists both Porsche and Panamera. You select them, it says to communicate with the controller, then it fails and takes you back to where you started. The same happened with the Touareg. So the score is 3. The good news is that such issues can be fixed with software updates. You get lifetime free updates on this device, which is a huge plus. It remains an open question how frequent or extensive these updates may or may not be. I'll try again in a few weeks or months. At the moment it is not ready to replace the Think block which I use as my main block.
