Review on KitchenAid Gourmet Medium Grater with Etched Design, One Size, Black by Dana Young

Trying to grate hard cheese onto pasta with this flat design just won't work.

KitchenAid is by far the recognized premium brand in the world of cookware and gadgets. Therefore, I expected excellent design and functionality from this grater. Unfortunately, in my hands, it completely missed the mark due to a simple feature. My personal need was to grate the romano and parmesan very hard. Simple physics means you click on the cheese and swipe it across the surface. For convenience, other graters I have are held over a bowl of pasta to allow the shavings to fall off. The fact that it's a flat plane and not a rectangular shape or say a V means it doesn't have the rigidity it needs. It works a little better if you hold it almost vertically and press against a hard surface while sliding the cheese across the flat surface. But it takes a few steps and makes the factor of simply rubbing shavings into the pasta handy. To see if it was just my imagination or just having an awkward day, I took another V-shaped grater I have and used the same cheese on the same pasta bowl. The grille was light and infinitely more efficient as well as faster. Sorry but based on my usage this grater will either go unused or sadly end up in the trash. That looks great. But it was not an effective tool. I do not recommend.
