Review on Black Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Professional Grade Studio Monitor Headphones with Detachable Cable - Critically Acclaimed by Felicja Kwiatkowska ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great value for money, one of the best offers.

I would want to elaborate on a few topics, which are as follows: 1) The M50x is not the right choice for you if you prefer a sound that is cozy and inviting. The sound they make is sharp, harsh, and eerie. It is perfect for music that is melodic and passionate, as well as classical music. To put it another way, these are excellent headphones in this regard. But, it is highly doubtful that they will let you unwind after a hard day's work. 2) The M50x has a small soundstage that is significantly more constricted than average. On the one hand, it gives the impression that you are sitting next to the artists in the recording studio with them, which brings about a sense of coziness and a sense of being present for the performance. Personally, I adore it to a great extent. Yet, if you prefer a sound that is spacious, open, and reminiscent of a performance hall, the M50x will not satisfy your needs. 3) If I were to provide a definitive answer, I'd have to state that they are not audiophile headphones, but audiophile headphones. They enable you to concentrate less on the details of the sound and more on the music itself. Audiophiles should consider looking into other models, in my opinion.

Pros
  • 1) A sound that is incredibly expressive and a sense of intimacy with the musicians who are performing. 2) Strong bass that is not the most detailed but has a lot of depth. 3) Headphones do not require an amplifier because their full potential is realized when they are utilized in conjunction with mobile devices. 4) The capacity to utilize wires of varying lengths that are interchangeable. 5) A tried-and-true design that has stood the test of time (inherited from the M50).
Cons
  • 1) A rather small sound stage. 2) Very powerful levels of high frequencies. It is beneficial for sound engineers to be able to identify flaws in recordings; nevertheless, if you listen to recordings at home, particularly older records or live performances, you will also hear flaws and crackles in the recordings. Several people think that the "tops" on the M50x are overly demanding and tiring. Make sure you give it a listen before making a purchase. 3) The level of sonic detail is rather high but not exceptional. Even at a same price point, you can find headphones that are superior to the M50x in terms of the detail they capture and the genuine sound they produce. 4) The ease with which it can be worn is, in my opinion, about average.
