If you want to make a wooden baby rattle, make it like this.

Shaping and sanding the wood. Polish the wood with beeswax, which is safe and harmless. Use water-based paints without dangerous chemicals. Don't use plastic. The result is a family heirloom that will always be cherished. Oh, and make it in the shape of a smiling teddy bear!
