We have been using these diapers since my son was a few days old. For the first few days of his life, we tried wrapping him in an ordinary nursing blanket, but it didn't work. Each time he managed to get out of the diaper. It's so easy with these diapers! We like that the Velcro keeps the slide in place. My son was only able to get out a few times and only with a lot of kicks (he's an active kid). He can slip his hand through the gap in the fabric between the bottom and top (see photo), but this doesn't seem to affect the effectiveness of the swaddling. We've used them every sleep and night for the past three days. Months and they hold up well with washing. The material is stretchy so it stretches a bit when we pull it when wrapping and when it squirms in it, but it's still very effective. pull further back so we can make the wrapping a little tighter. Our baby is smaller (7lb 7oz at birth and now 10.5lb) and still not as tight as we would like at times. We can take the bottom off to change a diaper while the top stays in place, but the swaddling isn't that tight and we end up doing it all over again.
