Design issues with AM4

. I was waiting for this since my Gigabyte Aorus was running so miserably. Only to find out it doesn't work that well due to the jerky and absolutely bad mounting design they use for the AM4! They use standard mounting clips with two spring loaded screws that fit over the clips. That's fine for people who plan to use stock coolers and do nothing but lightly surf the web and whatever, but after adding my trusty thermal paste, which I use for everything, I went into the BIOS to change the Monitor temperatures, and have seen that the idle temperature is 37C. Aorus reached 33ยฐC and Hyper 212 Evo 32ยฐC. I booted into Windows and started Cinebench r23 and immediately shut down. What I do with my thermal paste applications is this: I'm going to use the rice grain method and a glove (or "spatula") and spread the paste evenly. Then I make a small squiggle in a few different places and when the cold plate is seated properly the lube spreads normally and when the plate is removed the squiggles are not visible. If the plate is removed and the wavy lines are still visible, then I know that area of the stamp was not in contact. I removed the cooler and saw that the little squiggles I had made in the applied paste were still visible. In fact, MOST of the paste remained intact except for the extreme right side of the matrix. I reinstalled the back plate and re-tightened everything, same problem. The only part of the crystal that the cold plate came in contact with was an outer edge. I really wanted to like this cooler! And I think if you run it on an Intel system or get an AM4 system that it fits in really easily then you're going to love it. The RGB effects were the SMOOTHEST I've seen from any other cooler/fan. . It was definitely a high build quality. All fins on the radiator were intact. The metal was thick and the unit was quiet even when throttled. You just need a MUCH better mounting system for the AM4.

Pros
  • are clear even to the old
Cons
  • . Some little things
