Have had my eye on this combo box for a long time. I have used 2 old Stanleys that I inherited from my grandfather and a newer Stanley that my kids gave me a few years ago. They work, but have quite a bit of slop and can be frustrating to set for very precise marks. Now that I finally got to Starrett, I wondered why I had waited so long. Yes, it's not cheap, but the quality and accuracy are remarkable. It is very easy to fine-tune, there is no play and the measuring marks are clearly visible thanks to the matte surface. I use my combination squares to set up the machine and mark the joinery on the parts I've created. I invested in a 24 inch blade for this as I often need to make marks between 12 and 24 inches. It can be easily replaced with a 12 inch blade. Great tool for measuring and marking in store.
