Review on Cougar Pro E3426 Release Knurled by Pius Aponte

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not made in USA as shown

This ratchet has 30 teeth which is a good movement. I originally bought it because of the US stamp on the picture. Unfortunately, mine isn't stamped "Made in USA" and was probably made offshore. I have probably 20-30 ratchets and this one is way behind most of my ratchets. I took the mechanism apart and it has a three tooth mesh and looks very solid. The "backward resistance" as I call it is too high which is why this ratchet will not work after loosening the bolt. This is a mediocre ratchet at best, and there are far better ratchets for the money. Three Stars -------------------- Edit 12/16/14 My Stanley 3/8 ratchet broke. I called Stanley Tools about the lifetime warranty and they sent me a new 3/8 ratchet for free. It arrived today and looked strangely familiar. I pulled out my Wright Tools Cougar E3426 ratchet and it is identical to the STANLEY 3/8 ratchet. I have taken both apart and it is 100% clear to me that they are made in the same factory. The Stanley ratchet has 45 teeth compared to the Cougar's 30 teeth. A Stanley Tools 3/8 ratchet is about $5-6 cheaper than this Cougar ratchet at today's prices and is more comfortable to use due to the finer teeth. I will actually downgrade the Wright Tools Cougar from 3 stars to 2 stars. This really is one of my worst ratchets. Here is a similar Stanley ratchet. hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1418767366&sr=1-2&keywords=stanley+ratchet
