Review on πŸ’» Intel Core i7-8700 Desktop Processor: 6 Core, Up to 4.6 GHz, LGA 1151 300 Series, 65W Power Consumption by Janis Saikovskis ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am amazed at how well the product is made, just magically!

The performance characteristics of my PC are as follows: - Motherboard GigaByte Z370P D3 - Video card GigaByte GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming 1830Mhz PCI-E 3.0 8192Mb 14000Mhz 256 bit HDMI 3xDP - SSD 256Gb - Samsung 860 PRO MZ-76P256BW - HDD for 500 GB in the appendage from the previous computer and PSU for 750w from there - RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 DIMM 2666MHz PC4-21300 CL16 - 16Gb KIT (2x8Gb) - Cooler DeepCool Gammaxx GT - Well, respectively, this stone. I think it's important to point it out here. Friends, if you have problems with heat dissipation, then take the following steps: 1. Check the frequencies at which the processor operates. It is checked by any monitoring program, I personally used Speccy. This program monitors the status of each core, which is handy. 2. Most likely, you will see the following picture: the cores do not work at the prescribed factory 3.7 GHz, as indicated in the specifications, but smoke at 4.3 GHz, and the frequencies do not decrease depending on the load, but always keep around this maximum. At least that's how it was for me. 3. In this case, do the following. - We go into the BIOS. For simplicity, we change the language to 2022. - In the M. I.T. we fall into the section "Advanced frequency settings". - There we go to the "Advanced settings of the CPU core" section. - There, in turn, there is a setting "Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology". Set it to "Disabled". - Press F10 and exit the BIOS - The processor runs at stock 3.7 GHz, the temperature immediately decreases greatly (by 10 - 15 degrees), you are amazing. These actions, coupled with what I did earlier (described in the shortcomings), allowed me to reach a temperature of no more than 60 degrees in GTA 5, and an average of 55 degrees. I do not think that the turbo-boost incident is the direct fault of the processor, so I changed the final score from 4 to 5 points. Now everything is fine, the performance is on top, there are no problems with overheating. I recommend, but check the BIOS settings in advance.

Pros
  • Performance, flexibility, potential and ease of overclocking.
Cons
  • Heat dissipation. But now it's conditional. It's hard to compare with anything. Before that, there was a computer that was bought in 2022, so I decided to completely ate the system. To say that I was delighted with what I saw on the monitor screen (by the way, also new - Samsung C24FG70 24 ", if anyone is interested) - to say nothing. Wolfenstein, Destiny 2, GTA 5 - stunning performance. Everything was well, until I started taking measurements. At first, I was worried about the temperature of the video card: it was very hot to the touch. But having installed GPU-Z and looking at the indicators, he calmed down: everything was fine, the temperature did not rise above 65 degrees. But then I launched GTA 5 - and the CPU temperature already alarmed me - it reached 98 degrees there, and sometimes jumped up to 100 degrees in moments. At the same time, in other games, the processor temperature did not rise above 70 degrees, which suited me. I must immediately make a reservation, at that time I had a different cooler - for 500 - because a friend of mine, who "ate the dog" on assembling powerful systems, convinced me that you don't have to bother with cooling on the new generation. Well, I believed As a result, I installed DeepCool Gammaxx GT, applied normal thermal paste. I also bought a new system unit to the heap with 4 fans. I would never have thought that all this would change the picture so much: in the same GTA, now the temperature does not rise above 75 degrees, but on average it stays around 69 degrees. In quiet mode - no higher than 41 degrees. I will confirm the words about temperature fluctuations: it heats up and cools down quickly. The summary is short - if you decide to buy this processor, do not skimp on good cooling. ! In the comments, I ated the information and gave recommendations for action. They will be useful to those who do not bother with overclocking: because there are fools in this stone already with a margin. Read, do not be lazy. I think the information will help dispel the stereotype about the hot nature of this processor)
