I have a few of these that I only use for ketchup packets that are left over when we take home a win. We don't use ketchup very often so I stopped buying it in bottles. So every January I go through all the condiments in our fridge and throw out anything that hasn't been opened in the last 6 months. That meant I threw away a bottle of ketchup that was about 2/3 full every year. A few years ago I stopped buying ketchup because the waste was so obvious. For many years I relied on my memory to open a bottle or a can, and if I couldn't remember when it was opened, it would disappear. As I got older and the time went faster and faster, not to mention that the memory isn't what it used to be, I started using a marker to number these items as we open them. So, January is coming, if the number on a container is less than 6 or the manufacturer's expiration date has passed, it will be thrown away.
