Review on Unleash The Power Of Mythology With Gamewright'S Zeus On The Loose Card Game by Mark Bearden

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fast paced competitive game as you steal Zues and great for practice in adding (and subtracting) to 100.

Bought for my 7 and 10 year old, but my 13 year old loved it too. We are competitive so the constant stealing of Zues almost every turn was almost comical as he quickly changed hands. The game is simple: use number (and different special god cards) to get to 100. Whoever is holding Zues at 100 wins the round and spells a letter from ZEUS (win four rounds- wins the game). Some rounds were longer than others depending on if they were being evil and using god cards to drop the count down (I hate Hermes because it would reverse the number, such as 91 to 19, but my kids loved that of course). You also can steal Zues if you make the count hit a multiple of 10 on your turn, or if you have a matching number card you can play out of turn and steal Zues (such as place a 2 on the last 2 in the drawpile. I love that this helps them add in their head, but I also hated it too, because I ended up doing a lot of the math as the count went up and down (and stealing Zues was so exciting they forgot where we were at- 50 would have been better than 100 in my opinion but I see why it needs to be so high with the mischievous god cards). I am tempted to put a calculator on the table while playing, but then they'd loose the "secret" learning feature this game provides. Great game that you can take with you. For faster games, just play one round instead of several. We also bought this with Sleeping Queens and we like both games, but this one slightly more, especially the older kids or kids with short attention spans.

Pros
  • Compact size makes it perfect for travel, parties, or quick games on-the-go
Cons
  • Overpriced for what it offers
