Review on Whynter FMC 350XP Compact Portable Refrigerator by Gucci Breeze

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The freezer is great, if you can get a good one the customer service isn't that great.

I was very impressed at first. It was packed so well. It was packed in a thick cardboard box. Inside the outer box was an inner box made of thick cardboard. Plastic corner protectors have been molded into each of the eight corners. The freezer was in a plastic bag. I had a good feeling. (Concerned about shipping damage before buying). But I felt that any company that packs their product this well must have a good product. I plugged it into the mains and turned on the quick freeze. It started at 74F and reached -8F in about 55 minutes. A few days later I bought a car battery to make sure it ran on DC power. I hardwired the DC jack to the DC input. He didn't intervene. I wiggled the connector a bit and started pulling it out in case of corrosion. It started and worked fine. I left it on the battery to see how long it would last. Maybe it was over after six hours. I thought it should work longer. But I charged the battery to try again, but this time it wouldn't turn on. I saw a lot of white dust corrosion around the DC input bottom pin. I removed it with a small screwdriver and thought: Now it works. It did not work. I sprayed CRC electrical contact cleaner into the intake. He cleaned it up a bit, but there was still a lot of corrosion and it still wouldn't connect. Around the base of the lower pin was a channel completely filled with hard white corrosion. I pulled it out with a small screwdriver, hoping the connector would push a little further and it would work. That didn't happen. I don't have much space now so I gave up on packaging after seeing it would run on DC. I shouldn't have done it, but then again it seemed to work and I didn't have room for it. Otherwise I would just send it back to Revain. But I'm a technician, not a professional technician, but I have an electronics assistant and I can replace the input. So I did. And now it works the way it was supposed to work from the start. My problem is the painfully slow communication with Whynter customer service. I explained the problem and the solution. Just send me input. (It turned out to be 72 cents, 5 cents in taxes, and $7.99 shipping). But they were slow as hell and I had to use this thing, so I ordered an input, soldered two wires to the back and snapped it in. Ten Minute Job. In the end I just told them they were too slow, I fixed it, it would cost me to fix the broken freezer you sent me and if you want to fix it you can refund me. what they refused to do. It's sad they lost a customer to save $8.76. I realize I could probably buy a hundred more and they would all be good. And most likely I will never have to find out how unhelpful their customer support is. But once is enough, I won't forget it and will buy another winter. some. Revision: It took a while, but Winter finally sent me a replacement DC cable as a token and perhaps in hopes that I'd revise my review. I'll add a star for that, but to be honest it wasn't a positive experience. After I fixed it, the freezer works great. (I have just returned from a short break in the mountains). Maybe someday I'll buy another one. The defect was likely a rare event that surfaced during Revane's return period. Space or lack of space, I'd be clinging to a damn box. :)
