Review on ASICS Women's Gel-Venture 6 Trail Running Shoes: Unparalleled comfort and performance for women runners by Jim Bijelic

Gel-Venture 5 vs. Gel-Venture 6

As a retired nurse with a history of plantar fasciitis, I've learned to look at running shoes differently. Prevention is the best way, and that means wearing good shoes that complement a specific size insole designed for your specific foot problem. I have worn Asics for many years and have bought 3 pairs from the Gel Venture range. These shoes offer excellent stability, are very durable and pair well with my favorite insole (Spenco Polysorb Cross Trainer). From a practical point of view, a shoe is only as good as its insole, and most insoles are designed to fit the average foot size. As someone with unusually high arches, I believe that no shoe, no matter the price, can offer the arch support I need. I have tried expensive running shoes (Brooks Reverie) but these are much more comfortable and stable. I average between 15 and 20 miles a week on tarmac and my Gel-Venture 5 lasted 18 months. Compared to the Gel-Venture 5 and 6, the 6 has (1) a slightly more rounded toe box, resulting in more toe room (2) less tongue padding (3) a deeper profile (4) feels half a size larger and (5) more cushioning on healing. I personally prefer the Gel-Venture 6. In terms of sizing, I wear a 6.5 in shoes, 6.0 in sandals and have found the 6.5 to be comfortable in this shoe with thick socks. Today I put them on for the first time and ran 6 miles in total comfort.
