I love the compact size of this knife block but it's still big enough to hide some everyday kitchen essentials behind the board. The knives have been standing for a week and have not fallen off. Also, a pair of scissors (which doesn't lay the plug completely flat in the middle) feels very secure. I have no problem getting the knives off the block as long as I pull the handles up instead of pulling straight towards me. The chef's knife is a bit sticky, but it has a lot more metal in contact with the board. For reference on the size of the knives on the board: 3.5" paring knife, 5" utility knife, 5.5" santoku and 8" chef's knife. If I moved them closer together I could fit 1 more, and if my arms didn't flare maybe 2 more.
