Proper use requires some practice. After watching videos on YouTube, it took about 40 minutes to properly sharpen the first knife. After that, each first time takes about 20 minutes, and re-sharpening still takes about 10 minutes for me. With conscious practice I hope to reduce the regrinding time to 5 minutes. The edges hold up well in many applications before resharpening is required. By far the sharpest knives I have ever owned including 5 kitchen knives, 3 hunting knives and 2 pocket knives (Buck & Kershaw).
