I wanted to use a terracotta pot as a fountain so I had to drill a large hole in the side of the pot. The diamond drill worked perfectly. I would suggest that you have a helper squirt water on the area as you drill - this will help keep the drill bit from overheating and seizing. Also, start the drill at a slight angle, and then move it to a vertical position. Both help to ensure that the pot does not break.
