Review on WEISHI Nostalgic Long Handle Butterfly Open Safety Razor with Double Edge Blades by Lisa Watson

My Beginner Experience

Conclusion: This shaver sucks. Seems pretty bad. My Mach 3 offers a closer shave with less irritation. I bought the Merkur 34C about a month after getting this razor and it was amazing. details below. First of all I would like to say that I have been shaving Gillette Mach 3 for about 1 year when I first got this razor. I was so excited to shave with the DE razor. I have a good shaving soap (Proraso Red), a boar comb and a stand to allow the comb to dry properly. I have a couple of Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades as I've heard they are soft and good for beginners while still being sharp. The first shave was awful, I cut myself at least 4 times and didn't get a close shave at all. As a newbie, I assumed it was my own fault. I continued for the next 2-3 weeks with almost no improvement. I was constantly reading forums/watching videos what needs to be done better and where I'm wrong. I've kept improving my technique and using these tips, but my shave hasn't improved (pulled hairs, razor bumps). I ended up ordering a pair of very sharp blades (quills) thinking the blade might be the culprit. No improvements. In the end I decided on the Merkur 34c. It wasn't until I shaved with this razor that I realized all the hype surrounding DE shaving and how bad the Weishi razor is. Extremely close, smooth shave, no irritation. Merkur costs $40, Weishi $16. Don't be an idiot like me and cut yourself for almost a month trying to save $24. Conclusion: I had a terrible experience and would not recommend this product. Others have left rave reviews, but this was my honest experience as a true newbie.
