I have two cars. But I have 6 different DVRs. The reason is that I've been looking for the perfect front and rear dash cam setup for a long time. Every camera I've bought has always been fine, but every camera has always had some flaws (poor video quality, WiFi issues, GPS issues, LCD display issues, etc.). But now I found an almost perfect solution. The Rexing V5 with an additional rear view camera is the best combination I have ever come across. At first I was confused by the size of the DVR. I thought it was too big. But once I received it, I quickly realized that the size of the camera wasn't an issue. In fact, after installing V5, I consider the larger camera size a plus, not a minus. I can actually look at the screen and see more detail without using the phone app or removing the SD card and using the computer to view the files. In addition, increasing the size of the camera also meant increasing the size of the physical buttons on the camera. Larger buttons make it easier to control the camera. The V5 records videos in 4K. However, if like me you use the interior or rear camera add-on, the maximum resolution for the front camera is QHD, 2560 x 1440 pixels, or 1440p. Since the front and rear camera images are stored on the same SD card, my guess is that the maximum resolution limit is due to the processing power of the V5. Regardless, I found QHD video to be very sharp and clear. As you can see from my photos you can easily read the license plate of the car in front of me while driving at 79 mph. The V5 also performed very well at night. While I couldn't read the number plate of the car directly in front of me, I can't blame the V5 as the number plates reflect light and my headlights just bounce back at the camera. But on cars that weren't directly in the headlights, I could easily read the license plate. See attached photo. Rexing offers two options for the reversing camera. Although I installed the camera in the car, I used the Rexing waterproof backup camera. I chose this camera because the specs of the two rear cameras are the same and the camera size is much smaller. The rear camera records in 1080p. The video quality is good enough to read the license plates of the cars behind me, day or night. See attached photos. By default, the rear camera image is displayed as a picture-in-picture window on the dash cam's LCD screen. The V5 allows you to place the front or rear camera in a picture-in-picture window. In addition, V5 allows you to view the video stream from the front or back without any picture-in-picture window. Where I found the V5 to be a bit lacking is Wi-Fi. I was able to connect my phone to the dash cam's WiFi without any problems. I was able to stream live footage from both the front and rear cameras. I was also able to view previously recorded clips. The reason why I don't think the wifi is that good is because my video dropped a bit. I suspect it has to do with the file size and limited bandwidth of WiFi V5. But since I don't plan on using the WiFi capabilities much, if at all, that doesn't stop me from keeping and using V5. Finally on the LCD screen, if like me you have an older Rexing DVR like the V1 4K, you know that the LCD screen is not visible from all sides. You had to find the perfect viewing angle to see the screen. V5 solves this problem. I can see everything on the LCD screen clearly from every angle. In general, I'm a fan of V5. If you need a powerful modular DVR to also use the rear camera and record both cameras on the same SD card, I recommend the V5 and the optional rear cameras.
